Ok, I’ve made my mind up: this spring I’m changing my trainers! My favourite Stan Smiths don’t look so hot anymore: the leather is scratched everywhere and the toe is about to give up the ghost. -More cheap
manufacturing. Ok, ok, I’ve had them for about 2 and a half years, and I’ve not exactly treated them kindly either…
Despite this minor setback, I still like the brand with the 3 stripes. So I started my research there. As I suggest in my article on cheap clothes on our French sister site, I went to YOOX to see end-of-line stuff and new styles.
In the the former category I found these high-top “Pro-model” in black with snakeskin print. Unfortunately, I can completely forget about them; there aren’t any in my size! But there might be
some styles that you like in your size…
Operation “spring trainers”: part 1. To be continued.
Here are 2 new brands that I haven’t mentioned for a long time: Pull-in and Stereo Panda. Here’s some news concerning both of them: they’re launching a co-branded line of underwear. You can see the unique elements of both brands in these styles available in cotton and lycra.
They’re available from the Pull-in concept stores in Paris, Hossegor, Aix en Provence and New York (see list of dealers). You’ll also find them in Stereo Panda partner stores like Citadium. They cost €35 for the black cotton style and €45 for the white lycra. -I’d like to see them close up to examine the quality though, as €35/45 seems a
little expensive…
Still not chosen your trainers for the summer? Here’s another suggestion from Fred Perry, the polo shirt brand, who also make trainers! Good, clean lines, a decent rubber sole, a laurel embroidered on the side, stylish and well-designed, you will just love this style
During my last few shopping trips I came across this brand that Raider mentioned on the French-language forum: Junk De Luxe. You can see for yourself that all the good things people say about this brand are true by visiting their site. In particular about their unusual multi-pocket shirts, which are relatively inexpensive. There are a few on ASOS. And you lucky Parisians can pop into “Et Vous” or le Printemps to buy them. See the Paris Shopping Directory for more details
I’m really into white at the moment! White shoes, white trousers, white shirt… I’m just into it! It must be a subliminal desire for purity, spirituality, or some other rubbish! (Or maybe the fact that summer’s coming, I can’t decide!) At any rate, today it’s the belt! But a white belt, of course. It’s made of leather, punched all over, and with a thick buckle at the end with Lowlife engraved on it. Lowlife is a great new English brand that the rockers (and the wannabes) love Belts are their main speciality. You might realise this looking at Lowlifestore, but they’ve since got into other things…
I haven’t been on Dress-for-less for a long while now. If you look really carefully you sometimes find nice little items that aren’t too expensive. I found these white trousers from Pepe Jeans. The only problem with white is that a pair of white trousers on a white background is hard to see Has anyone seen them in the shops? They look quite nice.
So what sort of trainers should we be wearing this summer? Low, light, canvas ones… Like the “2750 Classic” from Superga for example! They’ve got everything: the low cut, canvas upper, rubber soles, simple but effective! Hmm, maybe a little too basic, actually. What do you think? What do your feet fancy this summer?
These elegant trainers are from Ted Baker. I love the velcro straps that are different lengths with holes pierced at the ends. It’s the little details that really make these shoes! If you live in Paris, you can find Ted Baker at 20 rue des Francs Bourgeois in the Marais district – although unfortunately it’s their only shop in France. And unless they’ve got them in, these trainers weren’t available the last time I checked but they do have a nice selection of shirts and jumpers that is worth checking out. Outside of France, check for your nearest store here.
Swear is a London-based brand that offers a range of shoes that are somewhere between sneakers and classic shoes. They are both comfortable and stylish thanks to their rubber soles and pointed and detailed toe. The style is inspired by the world of rock, like the brand Schmoove, also well known to fans of skinny jeans, who have quickly adopted these two new brands.
Here are some wonderful handmade white leather boots with traditional Italian leather lining and sole. Top stuff! But no, they won’t make you look like a pimp, whatever Ouafa says
