You must already know about Lip. Maybe one day your grandfther gave you his vintage Lip watch? As a matter of fact, this brand was created in 1868 and for ages it has been a leading French watchmaker. According to its past, full of emblematic models, Lip proposes two ranges: the Createur revisiting their 70′s designs like the iconic Roger Tallon’s Mach 2000; and the Historique range with their most classic creations. Among this latter can be found the General de Gaulle which doubly marked Lip history: it highly simbolized the brand’s technological breakthrough as the world’s first electronic watch, and it granted the brand a place in the history of France, being worn by General de Gaulle (it is inspired from a slightly different model he was actually wearing called the R27).

This reissue faithfully reproduces the original design. It features an oval case, quite typical from that time, stick hands and a bolt on the direct-drive counterweight symbolizes the energy making the original movement work. The dial is finely finished with a gradient and a discret guillochage border. The watch has a transparent bottom so its movement and the balance rotation could be observed. Lip has chosen a Milanese bracelet for the automatic version. Interest for these knitted steel bracelets is greatly renewing from luxury watch brands such as IWC, Breitling, Zenith these times.

The watch also features a reliable automatic Japanese movement: the Miyota 8215 (it comes with a 24 month warranty), and it is 30 meters water resistant. What a nice neo-vintage watch Lip proposes us here with just a little update on a reworked dial. It is still an automatic watch for a decent price: €279, nicely done guys! For smaller budgets the Lip Charles de Gaulle also exist in a quartz version for €149 available at Timefy.

Regular readers of our French Version can now go without any presentation of Commune de Paris (we’ll do this later here), but everyone here has to know about Monsieur Jean-Yves today. Far from a basic bow tie, Monsieur Jean-Yves makes particularly inventive creations.

For summer 2012 Commune de Paris and Monsieur Jean-Yves teamed up to create a bow tie collection in which Monsieur Jean-Yves’ fetish accessory is customized with a touch dear Commune de Paris : insurgence. Till now, you could think Monsieur Jean-Yves bow ties were quirky, but this collaboration sets the bar higher.

For four different bow tie models Commune de Paris could choose any material and pattern. And they picked English, Italian and Japanese silk coming in striped as flecked patterns to revisit some existing styles. As for Monsieur Jean-Yves, he took care of developping the fabrics and crafting by hand all bow ties in this workshop. Each of them is developped in two colors, then we have 8 different bow ties.

They all have a very French human name: Auguste, Félix, Jules and Léo. There is no right choice here, they all have their particular thing, striped, flecked or asymmetrical! Nice materials, exquisite design leads to a certain price : Auguste, Félix and Léo would become yours for €145, Jules for €230 (good work deserves recognition). 10 ex from each are available right now from Commune de Paris e-shop, then will come to their regular stockists by the end of the year.

Summer sales have started since few weeks now, actually two. The more days pass, better deals you could make, this is my ‘special-sales’ moto! The most famous magazine about sneakers celebreates its 10th anniversary. For the occasion Sneaker Freaker has invited Puma to release a collaboration, a pair of sneakers called “Bunyip Cometh”. Founded in 2002 by Simon ‘Woody’ Wood in Melbourne, the magazine has become through the years a reference in sneakers culture. Its 10th year of existence is marked with a theme coming straight from their homeland, the ‘Bunyip’, a creature from the aborigine mythology.

A creature who would hide into waterholes (river beds, swaps and billabongs – a meander), frightening, devouring any animal or human who would dare venturing in his neighborhood. There are verious speculations on the Bunyip’s shape, some people tell it could look like a walrus with tusks, a horse with a mane or a dog. One sure thing is, it has fins and a long neck, a certain advantage over its victims.

Seeing this revisited version of Puma Dallas, we feel this collab was reworked according to the myth. The shoe looks like a mysterious creature lifted from a murky as deep water with an infernal look. The upper is made of a soft premium suede leather on a crepe solde giving it this natural aspect. The finishing touches are fine with a jagged-edged tongue and ‘zigzag’ stichings, still in a same spirit. Then, a off-white plain leather yoke featuring the Bunyip/Puma logo tops it all.

This collaboration was already available since march 15 in ASIA/Pacific, and it has now arrived in France. To get it in paris you should quickly go to Colette (213 Rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris) and Blackrainbow (68 rue des archives, 75003 Paris). This extra-limited edition guys, 20ex only for France sold for €150. #needapair

Metro Retro Apparel is an independent New Yorker label who started in 2009. From their first day, few wool and cotton ties were in the range, since then they have expanded to a wider accessory line composed by wool, silk, cotton ties, unique bow ties, hankerchiefs, scarves, pocket squares and a “revolutionary” “pocket circle”, a pocket square with a circle shape :p. All of these handcrafted accessories aim at adding a tasty touche to men’s outfits, formal but still fun.

Handcrafted, as I was just saying, in their workshop located in New-York, using the best fabrics. Looking for a nice tie to wear with a grey suit for a summer wedding, I let myself be tempted with this wonderful prince-of-wales checked set : a tie and their so-called “pocket circle”. Both are made in a fine and soft wool, and the cirlce has stitched ‘wavy’ edges. Elegant as relaxed, this is all what I needed! One last thing, handcrafting also means limited quantities, the tie has now unfortunately sell out.

This morning I came across this Folk linen shirt from which seem ideal for summer times (I bought it straightaway :x). Its gringham pattern would ideally suit sunset walks, ice cream in hand, as evening drinks. Such a fabric has lightness and elegance attibutes, it is perfect for any night where a summer breeze freezes your shoulders. Such a pattern could be matched with plain colors only. I already have something in mind: beige bermudas, espadrilles and a boater hat. Ps: sorry for those who need holidays.

Summer 2012 is the season or never to bet on patterns. In particular camouflage, which have been reinvented this year with an African influence.
