Hoon Paris Jewellery

by “Streetwise” Jay in Brands (on November 4, 2008)

Just as bags, scarves and other accessories are no longer the sole preserve of the ladies, and cosmetics are starting to become more accessible to men, men’s jewellery is no different and several trends which began to emerge at the beginning of the summer season are setting in.

Indeed, more than ever this season, the street is inspiring fashion and vice versa, undeniably so; just like in the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Pharrell, the street is becoming gentrified and is taking to flirting with glamour, a sort of bling bling chic is starting to show its face.

And Hoon Paris, created in 2005 by Adrien Haddad, has understood the phenomenon well; it specialises in top-of-the-range streetwear and has already been selling luxury pendants and rings for three years, with just the right ghetto twist: stylish and virile, and whether in gold or silver, it all works rather well!

The only problem is the price: you need to spend at least €300 to have the privilege of wear the aforementioned pendants or rings, so they’re only for those who haven’t yet been hit by the credit crunch…but we can all dream! (Adrien, should you happen to read these words…)

  • Ikken Jewellery

by Joe the "tire-remover" in Selected (on February 27, 2008)

It’s been a while since I spoke about jewellery (or galleries or scullduggery… hmm…), then I discovered the Ikken collection. Loving their work!

Recently released by Baptiste Bataille, who trained as a stylist, this brand marries western culture with traditional crafts of the Sahel. African art inspired the collection’s refined design, with curves shaped like dunes, the use of materials such as ebony, bone, shagreen and pure silver. Various different types of bracelets, and pendants are available in the first collection available from Numanu, at 8 rue de Turenne, Paris 4 (Tell ‘em Joe from “Comme un camion / French Truckers” sent you and you’ll get a 10% discount).

The shop itself is very “ethical”, which is also the case for Ikken, which has set up an aid project for a Touareg jewllery cooperative, which is supplied for the most part by local producers.

    Spexton Ring

It’s been a while since I talked about rings! Here’s one I like particularly well: a steel ring that looks solid, with a touch of originality. Spexton was created in 2003 by two Americans: Greg Shelton & Nate McPherson. And for their brief history, Greg, the creator, was a truck driver for 12 years! It’s the truth! ;-)

    Sigomonta gold ring

This is a little nod to MensSana who thought that the leather bracelet wasn’t expensive enough ;) Here’s a very beautiful ring, in yellow or white gold, set with a 9.3-carat black spinel (a gemstone used in jewellery). The rings in the XL Collection are individually made in the Sigomonta, workshops, in Budapest. Outstanding, aren’t they?

    Gucci Knot Ring

If you love silver rings like I do, you’re bound to like this solid ring from Gucci. However, it’s a shame they don’t have a picture of anyone wearing it, it would have been easier to judge the scale of it before putting it on your birthday list ;-)
