Our Legacy SS12 Sweats

by Adel as "the fireman" in Selected (on February 25, 2012)

From their new SS12 collection  A Constellation within, the 50′s Great Sweat is without a doubt one of Our Legacy’s best feature. Reinventing men’s sportwear items, timeless is the word that comes up to mind when we first take a look at their new sweatshirts!

Cotton made and available in a nice range of pastel colors, the  Great Sweat has been carefully designed for an everyday casual use. Also the apparent used fabric and washed-out colors give the Great Sweat a classic vintage aspect made to last. Not too wide and not too straight it’s extremely comfortable to wear matching any style: from the urban to the bedroomy look, just like when you pop out of the bed with you favourite sweatshirt on !

Mr Hare Loafers

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on December 12, 2011)

Here is a pair of shoes I came across few weeks ago looking for some very smart loafers to dress-up for a cocktail party. Since 2009, Mr Hare, brings its fresh vision of shoesmaking mixing a British heritage, a French elegance and an Italian handmaking. Undoubtedly , Mr Hare has known how to make thinks extermely well with his first loafer: the ‘Genet’, named after Jean Genet, a famous French author (poet) and symbol or the Parisian Romantism.

One cannot deny the elegance of such a loafer with its velvet tassels and the use of a premium Italian calf-leather mixed with a soft suede upper. Fancy finishing touches and a thin shape is what gives these shoes their dandyish look. And this is all what you need to break up a classic partying outfit with a fanciful-romantic touch (and make the other guests envious, male and female).

Band of Outsiders Oxford shoe

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on September 3, 2011)

I desperately fell in love with this pair of Oxfords found at Oki-ni. To create those tan semi-brogues, Band of Outsiders did not make things halfway. And you can admire all their good work with such fine details on the cap toe, the multiples brogue stitchings and some contrasting off-white laces. Hand made in Italy, it tells a lot about how luxury those shoes are, to get, in the end, the perfect shape of a classic Oxford. With a 100% leather fabric of course! One last funny thing is the stamp left/right under each sole coming in different colors (red for the right and blue for the left) made to “prevent confusion”. Band of Outsiders, you old devils!

Rag & Bone raw jeans

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on August 27, 2011)

As I am seriously considering to wash my APC Petit Standard after wearing them during 14 months (I’ll put some picks on tumblr), I am starting to peep some new pair of raw jeans to replace them. I just came across those Rag & Bone selvedge ones, and they might be a good option to consider. Just like Oki-ni says : “there is nothing unusual or quirky about these jeans, they just get the essentials 100% right”, here is what we should all look for when getting some raw jeans. Slim legs, selvedge denim, contrasting stitchings, the features are quite similar to my APC’s and on top of that, Rag & Bone makes them in the USA.

WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie wash bag

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on July 13, 2011)

We have never talked about wash bags, a quality one has to introduce the section. Our pick comes from Want Les Essentiels de la Vie, a brand we have been watching closely since few monthes. They are focusing on creating functional, top-quality leather accessories with a timeless design. This wash bag mixes organic cotton and premium leather very soberly which creates a lovable contrast between colors and materials. As classic feature part of the brand identity finishes the piece : a gold zipper. We are smitten…

Fallow Denim

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on May 27, 2011)

It’s been a long time since I wanted to present you Fallow Denim, I’m taking the plunge today. As any denim amateur, I’m sensitive to authentic brands caring for fabrics above all, and sharing us a certain philosophy. Maybe you could think they are just another denim brand among dozens. And you won’t be so far from reality. But, Isn’t it what denim is about? I mean, passionate people, Japanese denim fabric and local craftsmanship.

Fallow’s range is quite complete, from straight to slim through tapered (even loose). And great attention to details is payed for each pair of jeans : buttons, rivets, lining and stichings are all bordering on perfection. Of course, the denim used here comes from Japan, and it is made to get better with age. I’d gladly go for this straight legs one which is exclusively made for Oki-Ni. By the way, take a few minutes to read their denim dissection in collab with the brand (so cool!). Last thing (but not least), and we will never keep repeating it enough, pick them two sizes down from your usual size, because they will stretch dramatically.

YMC Selvedge jeans

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on May 15, 2011)

You don’t necesarily have to search from “jeansmaker” tagged brands to find quality denim pieces. Proof with those superb pair of selvedge jeans from YMC. Ok, we’re talking about basics, and such a brand has to know how to make it properly. Consider it done! The Londoner label offers us a lovely pair of trousers with noticeable features like acontrasting coin pocket and slim legs. But the thing we appreciate more from them, funny and practical, is the idea of allowing button holes for braces. Not using them would be a shame! :p

Them Atelier Denim

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on April 8, 2011)

I’d like to introduce you a brand I just found out about : THEM Atelier. The concept is based on art, design and music with one key word : creativity. Their clothing line is matter-of-factly strongly inspired by those convergent worlds. Pieces are most of the time made in the USA. These tapered jeans looks amazing. I’ve never such a cool colorway from other brands. Furthermore, the fabric is rigid and the price decent.

NN07 Shirt

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on March 15, 2011)

NN07 is in the same vein as young labels creating clothes regardless the trends. This means durable materials and timeless clothes : that’s their way to “save the planet”. I came across this Derek Shirt from their SS11 collection, it features contrasting buttons, a button down collar and a chest pocket and. Its light fabric (cotton + linen) could be ideal for the upcoming warm days, and just as ideal to be matched with some Vanishing Elephant chinos ;)
