Folk for Men

Folk Coat

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on January 19, 2012)

It has been a while that I have been looking for a winter coat, I finally found something suiting my tastes from Folk. A brand we’ve been following for quite a long time and which quality is more than reliable, undoubtedly a sure bet! My demands were simple: 1- a warm coat for winter. 2- a peacoat. 3- must suit my style. 4- budget of about £210. All my conditions were met, then I took the plunge!

First thing, the coat is 70% wool made, a thick wool coming from Italy. Enough to keep my body warm from Mistral (name of a cold wind from the South of France) storms. Here we can talk about a peacoat because of the length and the double breasts. The main difference with a classic peacoat may be the shawl collar here, this is precisely what caught my attention.

Additional details also appealed me much: the color palette first, with the use of brown (buttons, pocket buckles) contrasting the dominant navy, and such original pockets which fastening straps are made of vegatally tanned leather.

Once on your shoulders, the coat suits all expectations : warmness, good cut (though a bit too straight) and an awesome style. One could think puting you hands in the pockets might be annoying. It is true at the beginning, but your hands quickly get used to slip through the pocket straps (even fastened there’s enought space). Tested and approved!

Folk Tan Chinos

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on September 14, 2011)

Let’s anticipate cold weathers before they sell out. Those loose-fitted chinos from Folk look awfully comfortable. First and foremost, because of their 100 coton corduroy construction, and then we can add their slightly tapered cut. Above all, details appealed us, lots of details… from the pockets; front and rear, from the waistband with a cool stitch and from the “Corozo nut” buttons. Another essential piece for the season to wear in a workwear outfit.

Folk belts

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on July 31, 2011)

Looking for a cool, quirky belt to wear on my jeans and chinos, I stumbled upon those from Folk AW11 collection. Actually, we could expect such nice items from the English brand. This series of belts renders awesomely, with appealing features : woven fabric, sometimes plain, sometimes multicoloured, finished with a vegetally tanned leather and made in England. Every one needs some formal and unformal belts in its wardrobe, you have now found yours from the second category.

Folk Overcoat

by Oliver as "the freeweel" in Selected (on June 29, 2011)

Despite the summer heat arrival in southern Europe, some of you are still under dreary weathers having their minds on the beach. First ones could anticipate autumn, the others might need a bit of warmness. I’ve found a treasure for both of you : the Nite Overcoat from Folk. It is 100% canvas made and features details like a tanned leather buckle or adjustable drawstrings, bringing out the quality of the clothe. You can wear it over a shirt, with any pair of trousers or shorts (if your a lucky man under the sun). A perfect wardrobe piece for mid-season times : not to heavy, not to soft… just perfect.

Folk ‘Joe’ Shoes

by Joe the "tire-remover" in Selected (on May 17, 2011)

How funny is this? Folk introduced a new model called Joe for SS11. This new design is true to the spirit of what usually creates the brand : simple and stylish. It’s basically a suede chukka boot with little charming details : like touches of constrasting leather from the ankle and the heel. Birefly, this is the kind of shoes we like to wear on summer nights with a pair of chinos.

Folk Jacket

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on May 2, 2011)

The Grafter jacket is a very new style from Folk. Its workwear inspired, featuring multiple front pockets and a classic cut in respect of the category. This present version is a “little bit special” beacause of its Japanese indigo cotton fabric. White stitching, brown buttons, sober brand patch, are giving the jacket an awesome render. To me, such a light and quality fabric appears to be perfect for the season. Hurry up guys, this is extra limited edition with only 20 pieces available (maybe 19 if you subtract my future one :>).

Folk Rainmac

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on March 28, 2011)

The rainmac from Folk, did have a certain succes from their past collections. And we clearly understand why : it really mirrors the brand spirit and has lots of features which we usually like from them. Of course, it’s 100% waterproof with a light nylon fabric, adapted to warmer seasons. The removable hood, allows some style changes, from casual to something smarter. In fact, what we really like is the elements all together, rendering so well : pocket details, snap buttons, and, among others a cool drawstring. This color is called ‘Phantom’, and it is also available in Forest and Bronze.

Coggles Winter (Pre)Sales

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on December 22, 2010)

Coggles has not started its sales yet, nevertheless they published a code
which you can enjoy a 25% discount with.

Here is the key to a AW10-21th-century-man look. First, put some tan ranger boots, Red Wing represents a perfect price/quality ratio. Then add some jeans, raw of course. We’ve talked about them before, they are from Natural Selection. One of the most “trendyable” top would be a chambray shirt : this one from Edwin is a sure bet and its color would contrast with the jeans one. Now you could think of a “sports” jacket in the same shade of your trousers, let’s pick this Penfield one. Then rummage, rummage, rummage, (you have to echoe the boots color) and bump into a Folk belt. It looks perfect but something might bother you, maybe the olive color on its back. No problem because you’ll find a Paul Smith olive bag making a double echoe : boots-belt then belt-bag. :p

The selection starts with some sneakers resulting from a collab between Evisu and Common Projects. Those shoes which design seems inspired by the Achille are featuring an appealing teal color.
