80′s Purple for Men

Momotaro x Naked & Famous denim

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on October 13, 2011)

Here is a collab I am pretty excited to introduce to you. Let us present this collaborative pair of jeans between two great denim brands: – Momotaro (which name comes from a folk Japanese hero), one of the most greatest jeaners of the world coming from Okayama, Mecca of denim – And Naked & Famous who needs no introduction here (but still few words :x), a Canadian brand also making great jeans, with innovative cuts and a strong image (packaging recalls 50′s pop art). Then, Japan and Canada team up here for an exclusive pair of jeans. First released for autumn-winter 2010, 80′s Purple has just received a few restock, hence this article.

Such a trousers has to be perfect, and they are with a rope dyed 14.5oz indigo selvedge denim construction all made from an authentic, vintage American Machine in Okayama, Japan (including the famous Union Special 43200G bulldog chain-stitching machine). Copper buttons and rivets are marked by Momotaro and the patch features a special double logo representing the collab. Icing on the cake is actually printed on the pockets with the Rising sun an the Leaf on each.

The cut, actually based the “skinnyguy” from N&F has slim/skinny legs with a regular rise. Denim used on the collab is a new Sanforized denim specifically made for it, then the jeans won’t shrink much when/if washed. I have heard that this fabric has excellent fading properties… it must worth the try!

Creative Recreation Kaplan Sneakers

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on September 12, 2011)

For a few years, Creative Recreation has been able to create a line of sneakers reprenting a perfect compromise between style and price. This idea is strenghtened this season with new models for AW11. An example with the freshly released Kaplan HI. A sneaker whith sober colors contrasted by quirkier laces, a classic shape and a leather construction. Simple, cheap and efficient, that is all there was to say.

Obey x JesseLisa t-shirts

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on July 18, 2011)

Obey, still looking for some off-beats collabs, has teamed up with JessLisa, an illustrator for Shepard’s Fairey’s Studio Number One, to release a series of t-shirts for SS11. The graphics reflects her background well : sometimes working for her own music label, sometimes illustrating and photographing. We absolutely fell in love with those multicolor-psychedelico-weird graphics inspiring us lots of summer things.

Vanishing Elephant derby

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on April 14, 2011)

I’ve lastly found some ideal derbies for the season! Vanishing Elephant is a brand I’m fond of these times. And such beautiful shoes probably won’t change my mind, on the contrary! They’re classic derbies : “cognac” grain leather made with a leather sole. The kind of shoes that adds a slight chic touch in any outfit.

Vanishing Elephant Chinos

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on March 15, 2011)

This summer is going to be flooded with colors, a godsend to us. Will you dare wearing coloured pants like those chinos from Vanishing Elephant? The Australian label created in 2009 is becoming a surer bet year after year. The main reason for such a success : their create classic pieces with modern cuts and quality fabrics. Ok, it may look rather usual, but not that easy to make, proof with many awards won in only two years of existence. To match them, try to choose safe colors, just to avoid an ‘arc-en-ciel’ effect.

Rxmance SS11

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on February 16, 2011)

Rxmance is the fruit of Chris Dennler. The brand is inspired by his life experiences such as travels. The SS11 collection highly evokes freedom, and a certain romanticism : people on the beach, great landscapes and a melancholic sky. As if the creator wanted to share us his adventures. The line comprises summer shoes, canvas bags, and mainly icludes tops : basics t-shirts and grahic ones, recalling his own life. My favourite is this one, which the creator “carved in a relief printing class” in LA (last pic in the gallery). The graphic is quite original and just as quirky as I like.

Naked & Famous Skinnyguy

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on January 27, 2011)

Naked & Famous denims really are at the top. Each season they keep surprising us with new innovations in terms of denim fabric, materials and washing with their classic cuts. The skinny guy version spring-summer 2011 has come. Ouch! My eyes are stinging. What a beautiful item, what an appealing color offered by a broken twill construction. I’m convinced about their jeans’ hard-wearing quality. These ones are the kind of piece that makes you want to complete your wardrobe, even if you’ve already got loads of pairs.

H by Hudson

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on December 15, 2010)

As usual, H by Hudson is at the top. Today I’m introducing you a pair of boots from the British shoesmaker. Coming from their permanent collection, they’re basically ankle boots with some choice leather, made in Portugal. What seduces us is mainly their delicate brogue details and shape giving them this vintage look everyone is looking for these days.

3Sixteen tie

by Romano as "the garagerocker" in Selected (on November 30, 2010)

Here is a stylish tie. It comes from 3Sixteen, a Newyorkese deigner. Something unusual for ties, this one is plaid made. How to dress with such a preppy item? The ideal would be a black suit (the most impetuous ones would dare cords for the jacket), of course you’d add a white shirt to bring out the colourful side of the tie. Lastly, you’ve got the choice between black patent leather shoes, or white sneakers, it depends on your personal taste.
