This is not a legend, Lacoste invented the polo shirt. It was in 1920, and René Lacoste, a professional tennis player, was wearing this pique short-sleeved shirt called “12 12″ shirt, created by his friend André Gillier who owned a fabric factory. A brand, Lacoste, was created under the athlete’s name then. Quite impossible to separate the polo shirt’s and Lacoste’s history – by the way, it is the first ready-to-wear brand to put a logo on its products. Polo shirts have kept over the years a posh image (they were the first to wear it in their weekend outfit), they have become more popular though. Mainly because they represented wealth people. Made in a anti-perspirant fabric, chic and relaxed, it is the ideal compromise between a shirt and a t-shirt, matching greatly all chinos, bermudas or jeans. Do not hesitate picking yours in a bright color, it is the trend of these last years!
