The 1960s American jazz scene was really creative in terms of style and new sounds, these times deeply influenced fashion as music. The sping-summer 2013 men’s Ben Sherman collection draws its inspiration from this fantastic period and winks at this “Jazz Life” through a photo campaign. Following on from autumn-winter 2012, Ben Sherman highlights their usual “shop boys” wearing British quirky looks and using some emblematic studios of London from that great era as a backdrop.

A nice Waistcoat

The waistcoat never leaves people indifferent. Some would think it’s ugly, some it is too much and some other will think it’s a must-have. The most difficult with waistcoats is to wear it with taste, which could give an awesome render. The most informed would recommend wearing it with rigid-collar shirts only. Many people like waiscoats as a fashion item and see it like a ostentatious sign of elegance, but still can’t pass the purchasing hurdle.

A good waistcoat gathers different elements:
- To be the appropritate size (needless to say)
- To be in the same color and fabric than your suit (or maybe you handle the color palette like a king)
- The first button should jut out from the jacket (the buttonhole area should be longer than the jacket’s one. Ex : 2buttons jacket + 3 buttons waistcoat).
- It should always remain closed, whether you keep your jacket open or not.

Timex x J.Crew watch

For those whose budget (or wish) can’t necessarily allow acquiring a luxury diving model, but still like nice watches, it may worth having a look on your piggy bank and see if there’s enough to grad the new collaboration between Timex and the American brand J.Crew. Both are now used to release products in common, and this time they tackled a great classic of watchmaking: the diving watch.

The model is called Andros, like one of the most impressive coral reef of the Wold, and comes with a navy Nato typed wristband. The case is made of stainless steel and the dial is colored in navy, matching with the strap. The watch is equipped with a Japanese quartz movement, shows the date and stays waterproof up to 100m. It is not great watchmaking, but still finer, more elegant and more fashionable than a classic diving watch.

Nike x Undercover Gyakusou spring-summer 2013 collection

Since 2011 Nike collaborates with the Japanese designer Jun Takahashi, founder of the cult brand Undercover, to release a high quality clothing range dedicated to runners. Once again, the two of them renew this partnership for spring-summer 2013 season with a range of technical and reliable products based on Nike know-how and Jun’s particular taste for functional aesthetics. “Because running during the summer is a fight against the heat”, pieces of this collection are made of ultralight and breathable materials from head to toe, reducing discomfort during extreme running conditions. For the season, the creator chose colors according to a certain vision of the urban runner (as he has always did since the very beginning of his collaboration with Nike), then touches of brighter color were added this time: orange, lush greens, fuschias cheering up those pieces one could find colorless. In more concrete words, the collection is made of windunners, t-shirts, shorts and pushers, then two models of running shoes: the Lunarspider LT+3 (with a crazy orange colorway) and the Lunarglide 4.

Mark McNairy Chelsea boots

The American Designer Mark McNairy made a specialty revisiting classic shoes he lights up with colorful details, like a bright red sole, an electric blue upper, or in this present case a fluorescent yellow elastic side. An original detail livening up these traditional Chelsea boots made of a calf-skin navy suede. The whole comes on a Goodyear welted sole in natural leather and features special seams on the heel the French call “baraquette” (the seam welt is all around the heel). Definitely, McNairy has a knack to add his recognizable quirky touch to the most classic model. As always, these Chelsea boots are made in Northamptonshire, the cradle of English bootmaking.

Lacoste Live Artist series t-shirts

Launched for spring-summer 2011, the Lacoste L!ve range has now used us to get the famous crocodile his semi-annual face-lift, a revolution our little green-skinned animal has now grew accustomed step by step, as he has remaied classic for years. Two years later now and the designers of the L!ve range follow exploring the many possibilities a 80 years old brand offers in term of image. For spring-summer 2013, they invited 5 artists from all walks of life to draw their t-shirts graphics: Ben Newman, an English graphic designer, Honet, a contemporary, baroque painter and previouly graffiti artist, Elzo, a Belgian artist halfway between graphic design and contemporary art, Andy Rementer, skilful drawer and Stevie Gee, a multipurpose illustrator. In all, they designed 9 t-shirts for Lacoste, all featuring graphics where the green croco is hard-hit, which we like!

In bonus two artists wished to add videos in addition to their graphics. Both are homoristic and tell the story of the t-shirt graphic, wtih the green crocodile as a guest star. Check them out:

Apc x Super Sunglasses

Few days ago our favourite Italian sunglasses manufacturer Super announced a first collaboration with the French from Etudes for the spring-summer 2013 season. This time they team up with anothger French brand, A.P.C. to release a set of 4 pairs: 2 for men, 2 for women. On these sunnies APC brought its ever minimalist design and Super their usual know-how in handcrafting high-quality products. The men’s pair comes in a half rounded, half rectangular hybrid shape presenting beautiful curves. A contemporabry model for the “effortless man” equipped with Carl Zeiss lenses. Two colorways are available: a full-black and a tortoise-brown both delivered with their branded case. We love them! Available now at Super sunglasses store.

Casio Watch

Casio always makes stylish affordable watches for small budgets. Looking for a vintage-like watch, I came across this MTP-1175 sold at a price that defies all competition. It features a metallic silver case contrasted by a golden dial and a tan leather crocodile-looking strap. The movement is said as Japanese, but nothing more is precised. The watch still has a calendar function, and it is waterproof. In brief, the main charasteristic of a watch is totally fullfilled: it provides time! Far from a luxury model, the watch is still stylish. Something you should know is that the battery is told to last two years. It has been two month now that I am owning it, countdown is on… :x
